Technology & IT
Solve problems with logic. This field is about more than just sitting behind a screen. You will learn how to protect digital data, build the software that businesses rely on, and manage the networks that keep the world connected. It is a career built on constant learning and technical expertise.
Specialized Mastery
The technology landscape is vast, ranging from cybersecurity and cloud computing to hardware repair and help desk support. Build A Pro partners with organizations that specialize in specific areas of technology management. As an apprentice, you are employed directly by one of our partner firms. Rather than a general overview of all IT fields, your training focuses on achieving mastery within your employer’s specific technical environment. This approach ensures you become a highly skilled specialist in the systems and software your employer utilizes.
What You Will Actually Do
Technology apprentices are active members of the IT team from the first week. Your daily tasks are determined by the specific specialization of your employer. You will work alongside experienced technicians and systems administrators to master technical support and network integrity. You could rotate through various roles within your specialty, including end user support, network configuration, hardware installation, and data security monitoring.
A Career, Not a Job
Build A Pro apprenticeships are structured between one and five years depending on the level of technical mastery the specific role requires.
- One Year Programs: Designed to equip you as a useful professional, such as a Computer User Support Specialist or Help Desk Technician.
- Three Year Programs: Typically the duration required to secure a Journeyworker level certification as a Network Administrator or Systems Analyst.
- Five Year Programs: Reserved for Master level certifications in cybersecurity, systems architecture, or IT management.
Each apprenticeship length is pre-decided based on current employer needs. However, your training could be expanded even after the initial program is completed while remaining with the same employer. This allows for a continuous path toward higher technical certifications and leadership roles.
Compensation and Earning Potential
Build A Pro is committed to establishing a high professional standard for the technology sector. We utilize regional labor data and specific technical classifications to ensure apprentices receive a fair starting wage that meets state standards while providing a clear path to long term financial stability.
- Average Entry Level: New apprentices in the Central Kansas region typically begin between $16.50 and $18.50 per hour.
- Average Journey Level: Upon earning a technical certification, skilled specialists in the region typically earn between $24.00 and $34.00 per hour.
- Average Master Level: Advanced specialists and those in IT leadership roles often exceed $40.00 per hour.
The Strategic Advantage
Technology is no longer a luxury; it is the infrastructure of modern business. As the workforce shifts and older systems are modernized, there is a critical need for local professionals who can bridge the gap between existing hardware and new software solutions.
Beyond initial setup, our community relies on the constant maintenance and security of local networks. The ability to troubleshoot complex issues and maintain system uptime is a high value skill that ensures technology remains a stable, recession resistant career path.
