Specialized Mastery

While the construction industry is vast, your career will be defined by specialized expertise. Build A Pro partners with specific employers who excel in a particular niche of the trade. As an apprentice, you are employed directly by one of our partner firms. Rather than a general overview of every construction facet, your training focuses on achieving mastery within your employer’s area of operation. This focused approach ensures you become a highly skilled specialist with a deep understanding of your specific craft.

What You Will Actually Do

Construction apprentices work on active jobsites for their employers starting in the first week. Your daily tasks are determined by the specific specialization of your employer. You will work alongside an experienced Journeyworker to master technical skills and industry standards. You could rotate through various project types within your specialty, including residential developments, commercial and institutional projects, and industrial and infrastructure work.

A Career, Not a Job

Build A Pro apprenticeships are structured between one and five years depending on the level of mastery the specific trade requires.

  • One Year Programs: Designed to equip you as a useful professional craftsman in your trade.
  • Three Year Programs: Typically the duration required to secure a Journeyworker certificate.
  • Five Year Programs: Reserved for Master level certifications.

Each apprenticeship length is pre-decided based on current employer needs. However, your training could be expanded even after the initial program is completed while remaining with the same employer. This allows for a continuous path toward higher certifications and leadership roles.

Compensation and Earning Potential

Build A Pro is committed to establishing a high professional standard for the trades. We utilize regional labor data and specific trade classifications to ensure apprentices receive a fair starting wage that meets state standards while providing a clear path to long term financial stability.

  • Average Entry Level: New apprentices in the Central Kansas region typically begin between $17.00 and $19.00 per hour.
  • Average Journey Level: Upon earning a trade certification, skilled professionals in the region typically earn between $24.00 and $32.00 per hour.
  • Average Master Level: Advanced specialists and those in leadership roles often exceed $36.00 per hour.

The Strategic Advantage

The skilled trades are entering a period of significant demand. Approximately 41% of the current construction workforce is approaching retirement age. This creates a high level of leverage for young professionals.

Beyond new construction, there is a critical need for skilled professionals to maintain and modernize existing residential and commercial properties. Balancing the burden of new structures with the essential upkeep of our current infrastructure ensures that the trades remain recession resistant. By entering the trades now, you are filling a critical labor gap and securing your place in a high demand sector.
