Military Division

Many of our country’s bravest are experiencing confusion, frustration, and roadblocks when discharging from the military trying to enter civilian life and careers. Apprenticeships are viewed as beneficial to active, transitioning service members, and veterans. Build A Pro civilian apprenticeship programs provide credit hours for military training and experience if it is a similar occupation. In addition, any service member can pursue a skill unrelated to their Military training and experience. Apprenticeships can offer veterans a smoother transition into civilian life. Apprenticeship will allow veterans to start earning more money faster as they get out of the military.

As a registered apprentice, qualifying service members and veterans may also be eligible to receive Post 9/11 GI Bill or TAP benefits, which may be utilized during training in a Registered Apprenticeship program and provide for the receipt of a percentage of their monthly housing allowance (MHA), in addition to their apprenticeship wages.

Transitioning into civilian life can present a unique set of challenges. Build A Pro seeks to dampen the impact of several of these challenges, including: Preparing for the workforce, Creating community and structure, and Connecting to necessary services. Build A Pro will also work to make sure that veterans will get access to all of the program connections and benefits they should be receiving both as former military and as valued community members.

“The best way to honor our veterans is to employ them.”

Former U.S. Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis

Special Considerations For Employers

Build A Pro has deep knowledge of the resources available for veterans, and therefore will ask of the employer only that they be receptive and responsive to apprentice needs. As each apprentice is considered based on their individual and unique needs, some accommodations may be necessary. Many of our brave service members have been medically discharged leading to various levels of physical limitations. Some apprentices may also require Occupational, Physical, or Mental Health services in addition to their academic program of study. The employer can expect a loyal hard-working apprentice and will be asked to show the same. Employers interested in hosting our Military Hero Apprentices should contact us for additional information.
